New to the store this week is the hand painted china designed by a French interior design guru, Alberto Pinto. These dinner plates and cups with saucers are painted in gold wicker design which illustrates the designer’s understanding of affordable luxury. Most items are priced between $150 and $265 – very reasonable considering that all items are hand painted using real gold on Limoges ware.

New this week to the store are the Little Joseph candleholders ($135). Having already sold out, these items, created by a design studio from Czeck Republic Qubus, are definite conversation pieces. Just arrange a couple of these on your coffee table and use different colored wax candles. When the candles burn they gradually create whimsy hair styles that change with every use (or if you like your baby heads bold and shiny use the non dripping wax candles).

“Nerikomi ware is a general term for a type of two or more colors. The technique originated in China during the T’ang dynasty and involves slabs of usually contrasting colored clay laid on top of each other. The great care that is required during preparation makes nerikomi one of the most time consuming and difficult to master potters techniques. A successful piece however, presents an aspect that cannot be imitated by mere surface decoration. In its depth lies the irresistible seduction of nerikomi ware.”

New items to the store include nerikomi ware by Japanese artist Yusuke Aida. These tea-cups and coffee mugs ($120-$190) possess a charming quality of imperfection. Pick one up and examine it to see for yourself the amount of time and craftsmanship that was put into these stunning works of art. Use this modern object with a simple white plate to have a combination that you will never get tired of.

Today’s item of the day – reversible glasses designed by a Turkish company Gaia&Gino. The company is named after it’s founder – Gaia and her dog – Gino. This line was designed by Karim Rashid, who is well known for his “democratic” approach to design – high quality practical pieces accessible to the masses. And indeed, these glasses are very well priced ($45 – $90) and will prove to be useful. Think of it this way – if you buy a set of four you will not only end up with eight but also will not have to worry about storage (ideal space savers!).
